Al-Sheibani: Working to Strengthen Cooperation with Turkey; Talks with SDF Have Not Yet Reached Implementation Stage

Syrian Foreign Minister, Assad Al-Sheibani, stated yesterday that the negotiations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have not yet resulted in practical steps to implement the March 10 agreement, affirming that communication between the two sides continues in this regard.

Al-Sheibani made these remarks during a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara, where the two discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between their countries.

He explained that his visit to Turkey aims to “strengthen the strategic partnership based on transparency and dialogue,” noting that “Syria has returned to its rightful place among the countries of the world,” and affirming “rejection of any form of division.”

The Syrian minister called on the international community to pressure Israel to stop its attacks on Syrian territory and to abide by the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized his country’s support for Syria’s territorial unity and sovereignty, stating that “Israeli attacks on Syria represent a dangerous escalation threatening regional stability,” and that Ankara “is closely monitoring developments in Suwayda Governorate.”

Fidan stressed that Turkey views cooperation with Damascus as fundamental to maintaining regional security and combating terrorist organizations.
