Syria\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alibi, said that his country will follow diplomatic and legal channels to respond to the Israeli attack that targeted the town of Beit Jinn in the southwestern Damascus countryside, which resulted in deaths and injuries, according to what Al Arabiya reported on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alibi explained that \u201cthe government\u2019s priority is the protection of civilians,\u201d adding that \u201ca direct military response is not on the table,\u201d and that his country \u201cwill confront the aggression by documenting it at the United Nations and working to condemn it in international bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian envoy noted that Damascus \u201chas succeeded in isolating Israel diplomatically,\u201d as he put it, adding that \u201c15 members of the Security Council condemned the recent Israeli attacks.\u201d He pointed out that Syria \u201cremains committed to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement,\u201d considering that this commitment \u201cdisturbs Israel more than the option of military retaliation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
