UK Warns of Impact of Foreign Interventions on Syrian Internal Reconciliation

Richard Moore, the head of the British Foreign Intelligence Service, called on the transitional government in Damascus to draw on the experiences of local administrations that have been formed in Syria over the past years and to integrate them into state institutions rather than marginalize them.
Moore stressed that involving all parties in the process of building a new Syria represents a fundamental step for the success of the transitional phase, noting that bypassing international norms in establishing centralized institutions, such as a unified parliament, hinders progress toward a comprehensive political solution.
He also pointed out that foreign interventions continue to pose an obstacle to rapprochement between Damascus and the local administrations in eastern Syria, emphasizing that consolidating the foundations of coexistence among the country’s various components is the key guarantee for the success of the next stage.
