U.S. Vice President: No Set Timeline for Hamas Disarmament

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said on Tuesday that a timeline for disarming Hamas cannot be determined at this time, expressing optimism about the durability of the current ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Vance added, during his visit to Israel, that “the disarmament of Hamas is a strategic objective, but it is too early to set a timeframe for that,” stressing that Washington is currently focused on consolidating the truce and implementing the second phase of the agreement.
Vance’s statement comes at a time when the U.S.-brokered ceasefire is facing challenges following a resurgence of violence in recent days.
The U.S. Vice President arrived in Israel on Tuesday afternoon as part of a regional tour that includes meetings with Israeli officials to discuss efforts to solidify the ceasefire and the reconstruction plan for Gaza.
Israeli media reported that Vance’s visit to the Gaza Strip was canceled for security reasons, and that he will instead monitor the situation on the ground via a live feed from the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
