Two Public Gatherings in As-Suwayda in Solidarity with Residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo

Residents of the city of As-Suwayda and its countryside organized two solidarity gatherings on Wednesday to express their support for the people of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo, amid the difficult humanitarian conditions in those areas.

Local correspondents reported that hundreds participated in the two gatherings held in Al-Karama and Shahba squares, following calls by activists and civil society groups. Participants raised banners calling for Syrian unity and rejecting policies of siege and starvation. Prominent slogans included: “The fate of Syrians is one” and “The siege on Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh is a siege on As-Suwayda.”

Organizers of the gatherings stated that these actions come “in response to the solidarity previously shown by the regions of North and East Syria with As-Suwayda during the events of last July,” emphasizing that the shared fate of Syrians requires a united stance against any targeting of civilians.

These demonstrations come amid ongoing tensions in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, which have been under attack since October 6. According to local sources, the assaults included drone strikes and the closure of roads leading to the neighborhoods, resulting in casualties and several civilian injuries.
