Turkey… Restrictions on social media Amid Security Measures Against the Opposition

Local reports on Monday indicated the imposition of restrictions on some social media platforms in Turkey, where users of X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok are experiencing severe slowdowns and connectivity issues, while scattered problems have been recorded on WhatsApp and Telegram with only some service providers.
The internet monitoring platform EngelliWeb reported that the restrictions coincided with the authorities strengthening security measures around the headquarters of the opposition Republican People’s Party CHP in Istanbul, sparking controversy over their motives and timing.
Experts believe these measures could directly affect the internet activity and user experience in the country, amid concerns that they are linked to escalating political tensions.
