Trump Announces Renaming of the U.S. Department of Defense to the Department of War

U.S. President Donald Trump officially announced a decision to rename the U.S. Department of Defense to the Department of War, affirming that this new designation reflects the current international situation.
During a press conference at the White House, Trump stated that the country will have a Department of War and a Secretary of War, considering that the name “Department of Defense” carries a liberal connotation, whereas “Department of War” better expresses the current phase.
He explained that a presidential decree has been signed to adopt the new name and to oblige all agencies to use it in official correspondence and communications.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth pointed out that the United States has not achieved any major victory since changing the name from Department of War to Department of Defense in 1947, which, according to him, strengthens the rationale for reverting to the old name.
The move sparked political and legal controversy regarding its motives, especially as it may have implications for the U.S.’s image domestically and internationally, amid questions about Trump’s objectives behind this decision.
