Transitional Government Delays Salaries of 2,800 Employees for Over Two Months

Approximately 2,800 employees at the Drinking Water Corporation in Sweida Governorate are facing a financial crisis due to the suspension of their salaries for more than two months, amid delays in transferring budget allocations from the Ministry of Finance.

The Director of the Drinking Water Corporation in Sweida, Muthanna Abu Assaf, stated that the transitional government has not disbursed employees’ salaries for over two months. The corporation employs about 2,800 workers, including permanent staff, daily workers, and annual contract employees.

Abu Assaf explained that the salaries of permanent employees have not been paid for the months of September and October, while employees on annual contracts have not received their dues for August and September. Meanwhile, daily workers’ salaries have been completely halted since the beginning of the military incursion in Sweida.

He pointed out that the total financial allocation for wages amounts to approximately 2.6 billion Syrian pounds following the recent increase. However, the available funding does not cover these expenses due to delays in transferring allocations from the Ministry of Finance.

The director confirmed that the ministry requires the signing of disbursement orders by the previous envoy to Sweida, Governor Mustafa Al-Bakkour, who is currently residing in the town of Al-Mazraa, which the government has designated as a temporary headquarters. This requirement has caused widespread dissatisfaction among local communities.
