The Syrian Government: The Sweida Bus Attack is “Terrorist,” and We Remain Committed to the Roadmap

The Syrian transitional government described the attack that targeted a passenger bus on the Damascus–Sweida highway as a “terrorist act,” affirming its adherence to the roadmap for the southern region.

Abdullah al-Mousa, Assistant Minister of Information in the transitional government, told Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels that “the attack is not innocent,” adding that “the state’s entry into Sweida is the solution, not the problem.”

Al-Mousa stressed that the government “remains committed to the roadmap that was announced last month,” noting that “the intransigence of Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri is exacerbating the crisis in southern Syria,” as he put it.

The Syrian official emphasized that “the security agencies are committed to civil peace,” and that “those involved in the recent events will be held accountable.”

Earlier, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus near the “Marjana” station on the road connecting Damascus and Sweida, resulting in the death of two people and the injury of others, while the authorities did not release further details regarding the attackers’ identities.

These developments come amid ongoing tension in Sweida province, which has witnessed in recent months protests and sporadic clashes between local groups and security forces, amid regional and international efforts to reach a political settlement to end the tension in southern Syria.
