Syria and Japan Discuss Cooperation on Reconstruction Projects

Syrian Minister of Public Works and Housing Mustafa Abdulrazak discussed with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Damascus and a representative from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the fields of reconstruction and urban development, according to the official Syrian news agency (SANA).

Abdulrazak emphasized the importance of benefiting from Japanese expertise in structural safety, disaster management, and the development of building systems and urban planning, to ensure the safe return of displaced persons, pointing to the challenges the ministry faces at this stage of reconstruction efforts.

For his part, the head of the JICA delegation expressed the agency’s readiness to provide technical and expert support and build the capacities of Syrian cadres, aiming to support government efforts to improve infrastructure and promote urban development.

The two parties agreed to hold specialized technical meetings in the near future to pave the way for establishing a cooperation mechanism that defines work priorities and future implementation programs.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is considered one of the leading donors in Asia and participates in implementing reconstruction and sustainable development projects in a number of developing countries.
