SDF Announces Arrest of Four Individuals Linked to ISIS in the Countryside of Raqqa with Support from the International Coalition

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the implementation of a security operation, with support from the International Coalition, targeting cells of the Islamic State organization (ISIS) in the countryside of Raqqa, resulting in the arrest of four individuals.

In a statement, the SDF said that the operation was carried out on Wednesday in the areas of al-Hamrat and al-Jadida in the Raqqa countryside, following the collection of what it described as precise information about the activity of a cell affiliated with the organization.

It added that its forces arrested two individuals it said were ISIS members, Abdul Jabbar al-Obeid al-Suwadi and Mahdi Shanan al-Abdullah, along with two other individuals, Abdulilah al-Suwadi and Mohammad al-Abd al-Ziyad, who were described as having provided support to the cell by supplying it with information about troop movements and positions.

The SDF stated that preliminary investigations showed, according to the statement, confessions by the detainees of their affiliation with or cooperation with the organization, and their involvement in activities that included coordination with other cells, targeting military points, and attempts to carry out assassination operations.

It noted that the operation comes as part of what it described as preemptive efforts to prevent the execution of attacks that threaten the security of the region and the safety of civilians, stressing that it will continue its security operations to pursue the organization’s cells and dismantle its networks in the area.
