Rubio: The United States Supports a Syrian Government Representing All Components

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the United States supports efforts to establish a national Syrian government that represents all components of society.

Rubio added during a press conference that the goal of this government is to prevent Syria from once again becoming a base of operations for Iran, ISIS, or any other extremist groups.

The U.S. Secretary of State noted that Washington believes the success of the Syrian government is the best option to avoid a full-scale civil war and to prevent Syria from becoming a platform for extremist groups such as Hezbollah and al-Qaeda.
