Protest by Syrian Minorities in Front of the U.S. Consulate in Toronto Against Al-Shara’s Visit

The Canadian city of Toronto witnessed a protest involving about 200 people from Kurdish, Druze, and Alawite communities in front of the U.S. Consulate, protesting the visit of the head of the Syrian Interim Government, Ahmed Al-Shara, to Washington.

The protesters carried signs bearing the slogan “Syrian Minorities Are in Danger,” calling on the United States to reassess its relations with Al-Shara and intervene to protect the rights of minorities in Syria.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, areas such as Sweida and the Syrian coast have witnessed acts of violence since early 2025, resulting in hundreds of casualties. Participants considered this evidence of increasing risks facing minorities following the regime change in December 2024.

The protesters demanded sanctions on those responsible for violations and guaranteed protection for the Kurdish, Druze, and Alawite communities.

Canadian police confirmed that the protest, which started in the city center in the morning, was peaceful. Nadia Hassan, a Druze protester, said, “We want a U.S. stance that supports our rights and ensures the security of our communities.”

Similar events were held in other cities such as London and Paris, while international discussions on the future of the Syrian crisis continue.
