New Syrian Plan to Restructure the Army with Participation of Officers from the Dissolved Army

Sources familiar with the matter told the Syrian Observatory that the transitional authorities in Syria, led by Ahmad Al-Shara, are working to recruit a number of former officers from the dissolved Syrian army who have not been implicated in acts of violence or violations. This is part of a plan to reorganize the new Syrian army.

According to the sources, the efforts target officers with specialized technical and military expertise in fields such as communications, electronic warfare, radar systems, air defense, aviation, and military engineering, with financial offers exceeding $300 USD per month.

The sources indicated that the goal of this step is to benefit from the national competencies with military experience to build professional defense institutions and to project the image of a state seeking to establish stability and rebuild itself through its local capabilities.
