Negotiations Between the SDF and the Syrian Government to Ease Tensions East of Raqqa

A military source in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Saturday that negotiations are currently underway with the Syrian transitional government to ease field tensions in the eastern countryside of Raqqa Province.

The source, who preferred not to be named, told North Press that the negotiations are still ongoing, noting that “the results are incomplete and require further dialogue to address the outstanding field issues.”

The SDF had announced last Wednesday that it shot down two drones, saying they originated from government forces’ positions along the Ghanem al-Ali axis east of Raqqa, asserting that the area has recently witnessed attacks originating from factions aligned with the government.

For its part, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said that attacks carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces targeted Syrian army positions in the same area, resulting in the killing of two soldiers and the SDF’s seizure of several points.

The SDF military source indicated that both sides are “politically in agreement on the need for de-escalation,” and that current efforts focus on preventing the expansion of the escalation and ensuring the stability of the area.
