Muqtada al-Sadr Calls for a Boycott of “Corruption and Subordination” in Iraqi Elections

The leader of Iraq’s National Shiite Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, has called for a boycott of what he described as “corruption and subordination” in the 2025 parliamentary elections, reaffirming his rejection of any political trends that are “corrupt or previously tested.”

Al-Sadr posted a tweet on his official account on Tuesday urging citizens to “boycott corruption and subordination,” saying: “I have left the sect of a people who do not believe in the nation or in reform, and they deny both,” adding: “The tried should not be tried again — shila’ qila’ (root and branch removal).”

He concluded his tweet with the hashtag #Boycotting_Corruption_and_Subordination, signaling his consistent stance against political forces he accuses of corruption or foreign allegiance.

This call comes in the context of al-Sadr’s repeated positions advocating for integrity and political reform, and his refusal to participate in any alliances or blocs he views as a continuation of corruption and favoritism within Iraqi institutions.
