Iraq Foils Drug Smuggling Attempt Near the Syrian Border West of Anbar

The Iraqi Border Forces Command announced on Sunday that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substances across the border strip west of Anbar province, near the Syrian border.

In a statement, the command said that detachments of the 1st Battalion of the 6th Border Brigade, under the Second Region Border Command, succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle more than 30 kilograms of narcotic substances, which were transported using an aerial balloon across the international border west of Anbar.

It added that the operation came after careful monitoring and tracking of the smugglers’ movements, during which the smuggled materials were seized in accordance with legal procedures, an official seizure report was drawn up, and the necessary legal measures were taken against those involved.
