In a Historic Visit… Syrian Interim Government President Ahmad Al-Sharaa Arrives in the United States

Syrian Interim Government President Ahmad Al-Sharaa arrived in Washington, D.C. on the morning of Sunday, September 21, 2025, in a visit marking the first of its kind by a Syrian official at this level to the United States in decades.
According to sources from “Syria TV,” Al-Sharaa is accompanied by a high-level delegation including at least four ministers, and the visit is scheduled to last five days.
A correspondent for the channel in New York reported that Al-Sharaa will meet later today with members of the Syrian community in the United States.
Diplomatic circles expect the visit to provide an opportunity to discuss the restoration of relations between Washington and the Syrian Interim Government, including the possibility of opening a representative office or diplomatic mission.
Al-Sharaa is also expected to deliver a speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York—the first speech by a Syrian official at this level since 1967—where he is anticipated to present his vision for a “New Syria.”
