High Election Commission Announces Final Results, Keeps Seats Vacant in Three Provinces

The High Election Commission of Syria announced on Saturday the final list of winners in the recent People’s Assembly elections, while keeping part of the seats in the Raqqa and Hasakah provinces — as well as all seats in As-Suwayda — vacant until supplementary elections can be held, citing security conditions that prevented voting in some areas during the previous polling date.

Nawar Najmeh, spokesperson for the commission, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that “the seats for parts of Raqqa and Hasakah, as well as all seats in As-Suwayda, will remain vacant until the electoral process there is completed.”

The commission had previously announced, in late August, that elections in those provinces were postponed due to the lack of suitable security conditions, before establishing subcommittees in rural Raqqa and Hasakah in September to oversee preparations for a future vote.

Najmeh added that the date of the first session of the new People’s Assembly will be set after the names of the remaining one-third of members — appointed by the President — are published, in accordance with the constitutional declaration.

This marks the first parliamentary election since President Ahmed Al-Sharaa assumed office in December, as the transitional government seeks to strengthen civil and administrative institutions amid ongoing security and economic challenges across the country.
