Hezbollah MP: Refusal to Surrender Weapons “Under Any Circumstances”

Hassan Ezzeddine, The Lebanese Hezbollah MP, affirmed the party’s commitment to retaining its weapons and rejected their surrender under any circumstances. He called on the Lebanese government to reconsider its decision to confine weapons exclusively to state authorities.

His remarks came a day after the government announced that the army would begin implementing a plan to disarm the Iranian-backed party, with a deadline set for the end of the year to finalize the plan, amid U.S. pressure and growing concerns over Israeli threats of launching a new military campaign following a bloody year-long conflict.

On Friday, the government welcomed measures proposed by the army to restrict arms to official authorities. Minister of Information Paul Morcos stated that the plan would be implemented according to available resources, without setting a specific timeline. He confirmed that the army commander highlighted constraints facing the plan’s execution, most notably Israeli attacks, and pointed out that any progress on the American proposal depends on the commitment of other parties—especially Tel Aviv—while Beirut remains committed to the required steps.
