Germany – Berlin considers deporting Syrians after a halt since 2012

The German authorities have announced their intention to start deporting some Syrian asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected, in a move that is the first of its kind since 2012, according to German officials.
According to the initial plan, deportation operations will focus on those convicted of crimes, as well as those who have not obtained the right to reside and rely on social benefits, with an emphasis on distinguishing between them and those who have integrated into society and the labor market.
The German government is also working to reach understandings with Damascus on the deportation file before the end of the current year.
