From Ben Gurion Airport… Rubio Threatens Hamas: “No Place for Them in the Future”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived today, Sunday, in Israel on an official visit accompanied by his wife, Janet Dosdepis, amid escalating regional tensions following the recent Israeli attack on Hamas leaders inside the Qatari capital, Doha.
Official Reception at Ben Gurion
Rubio was received at Ben Gurion Airport by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Herzog and several Israeli officials. The U.S. Secretary briefly stated that “Hamas has no place in the future if the region wants to achieve peace.”
Background of the Visit
This visit, Rubio’s second since assuming office last January, comes less than a week after the Israeli operation targeting Hamas members in Qatar, which disrupted mediation efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Rubio said he would discuss with Israeli officials Tel Aviv’s vision for the next steps in Gaza, in light of recent developments.
Agenda of the Talks
According to the Times of Israel, during his talks, the U.S. Secretary aims to:
- Renew Washington’s commitment to Israel’s security.
- Discuss the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
- Obtain answers regarding future scenarios in the Gaza Strip following the Israeli attack in Doha.
Tense Regional Context
Rubio’s visit coincides with calls for an emergency Arab-Islamic summit to respond to the Israeli attack in Qatar, at a time when the Israeli-Palestinian issue faces further complications after recent escalation, amid warnings of a widening conflict.
