Employee Tortured After Arrest at Bab al-Salama Crossing

Local sources reported that security forces arrested a civilian employee working at the Bab al-Salama border crossing north of Aleppo last Sunday on charges of accepting a bribe. The arrest was described as “humiliating,” taking place in public view without presenting a legal warrant.
According to the sources, the arrest involved verbal abuse and severe beating in a public place. The Syrian Observatory published photos showing the employee with bruises during his detention period, confirming that he was subjected to physical torture.
The employee was released two days after his arrest following the intervention of the Inspection and Oversight Committee, which documented the signs of torture on his body and affirmed its intention to follow up on the case and take measures to hold those responsible accountable.
