Delegation from Syria’s Transitional Government Visits Kurdistan Region of Iraq

A delegation from the Syrian Transitional Government entered the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on September 3, 2025, through the border crossings with Turkey. The delegation was headed by Abu Ahmad Zakour, deputy to Ahmad Al-Sharaa, and met with senior officials in the region, including Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed, during a meeting held at 8:00 PM.
The discussions focused on the Kurdish National Council’s orientation toward Damascus and future steps, along with ways to enhance political coordination between Syrian and Kurdish parties. It is noted that the Kurdish National Council is involved in initiatives that may be influenced by external factors, which could impact the political dynamics in northern Syria.
No official statements were issued by the participating parties regarding the outcomes of the meeting or any agreed-upon practical measures. Observers are closely watching the developments and their potential effects on Syrian political unity and coordination among various local components.
These moves come within the context of a complex regional landscape, involving interactions between Syrian factions and Kurdish parties. The talks are expected to have implications for the security and political situation in northern Syria, as well as the future of cooperation between local and regional actors.
