Damascus: Ministry of Defense Identifies Launch Site of Mezzeh Rockets and Continues Investigations

The Ministry of Defense in the Syrian Interim Government announced on Saturday that it had identified the launch site of two Katyusha rockets that targeted the Mezzeh neighborhood in western Damascus on Friday evening, after analyzing the angles of impact and the trajectory of the projectiles. The ministry said the attack was carried out from the outskirts of the city using a mobile platform, noting that the responsible parties remain unknown.
The Ministry of Defense added, in a statement reported by the official Syrian news agency (SANA), that joint investigations with the Ministry of Interior are ongoing, and that its teams found “primitive” equipment believed to have been used in the operation. The ministry denied reports suggesting the possibility of a malfunction inside one of the nearby military camps, affirming that no camps exist in the targeted area.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster quoted an Israeli official denying any involvement of his country in the explosion that occurred in a building in the Ein al-Kroom area of the Mezzeh neighborhood.
Syrian authorities had announced that a woman was moderately injured as a result of the attack, while security forces imposed a cordon around the site and began their investigations to determine the circumstances of the incident.
