Border Incursion and Raising of Former Syrian Flag

Unknown armed militants breached the Syrian-Iraqi border at dawn today in the Al-Bukamal area and raised the former Syrian flag on an abandoned border checkpoint, without any clashes occurring with the Border Guard forces.

Local sources indicated that the militants might be linked to opposition factions, while neither Iraqi nor Syrian authorities have issued official statements regarding the incident so far.
