Bishop of Al-Jazira Praises Cooperation with the Autonomous Administration and Calls for Recognition of Its Educational Curriculum

The Syriac Orthodox Bishop of Al-Jazira and the Euphrates, Bishop Maurice Amsih, praised the decision to open private schools that follow the curriculum of the Syrian Transitional Government to all students in the northern regions of Syria, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening coexistence among the various components of the region. He also expressed his gratitude to the Autonomous Administration for its efforts in meeting the aspirations of all communities.
In an exclusive audio statement to our agency from the Diocese of Al-Jazira and the Euphrates, the bishop expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) toward the Syriac community, saying:
“On behalf of myself and the heads of the Christian denominations in Al-Jazira, we extend our thanks to the Autonomous Administration and to everyone who contributed to opening the doors of schools to our children from different communities who receive their education according to the curricula of the Ministry of Education in Damascus.”
The bishop highlighted the importance of the ongoing cooperation between the educational institutions affiliated with the Autonomous Administration and the Directorate of Education in Hasakah, commending what he described as “the unsung heroes” who work to ensure the continuity of the educational process.
He added that “the spirit of love that unites the Christian denominations with their brothers in the Autonomous Administration represents a model of coexistence in northern Syria,” calling for peace and stability to prevail throughout the country.
Bishop Maurice Amsih also expressed hope that the Autonomous Administration’s curriculum would soon receive official recognition following a joint agreement with Damascus, affirming that the revival of the March 10, 2025, agreement would mark the beginning of a new phase of cooperation and peace among all Syrians.
He concluded his statement with a prayer of blessing “for all those who work for the stability and unity of Syria, whether in Damascus or within the institutions of the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces,” affirming that “they are all partners in serving the people of the region and its future.”
