Attack on a Prison Holding ISIS Members in Raqqa

The Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units reported today that al-Aqatan Prison in the city of Raqqa was subjected to an attack carried out by armed groups affiliated with the Syrian transitional government, noting that the prison holds a number of ISIS members.
In a statement, the forces said that the attackers used drones and heavy weapons in the assault, posing a direct threat to the security of the prison and the surrounding area. They confirmed that they repelled the attack and continue to take the necessary measures to protect the prison and prevent any security breach that could lead to the escape of detainees.
The Syrian Democratic Forces stressed that they do not bear responsibility for the potential repercussions resulting from these attacks, warning of the danger of targeting facilities that hold ISIS detainees due to the wide-ranging security implications this could have for the region.
