As-Suwayda: Relative Calm After Night of Attacks and Infiltration Attempts

A cautious calm prevails in the countryside of As-Suwayda this Friday following a tense night marked by clashes, attacks, and infiltration attempts targeting the town of al-Majdal and its surroundings. Although heavy-weapons fire has subsided and drone flights have halted since the early morning hours, the area remains on alert amid fears of renewed tensions.

According to local sources, the pace of attacks that struck western As-Suwayda on Thursday evening has decreased, with recent activity limited to sporadic bursts of gunfire. The area had witnessed the use of heavy weapons and drone attacks before the intensity gradually dropped just before midnight.

For its part, the National Guard Command announced that its forces had repelled a large-scale attack that began at 8 p.m. on Thursday, confirming that several infiltration attempts across multiple axes were thwarted. The command stated it had reinforced its defensive positions across various sectors and inflicted losses on the attackers in both equipment and personnel.

Despite the decline in clashes, tensions remain high in the As-Suwayda countryside, with both sides maintaining a state of readiness. Local residents continue to express concern over the possibility of renewed attacks, in the absence of clear indicators that the tensions have fully subsided.
