Arrest of Suspected ISIS Member in Deir Ezzor Countryside with Support from International Coalition

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the International Coalition, arrested a person suspected of belonging to the Islamic State organization during a security operation conducted yesterday, Tuesday, in the village of Al-Zir in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.

Local sources reported that the operation took place amid heavy security deployment in the area, with the suspect being taken to a specialized security authority for further investigation.

The operation is part of joint efforts between the SDF and the International Coalition to pursue ISIS cells in the northern and eastern regions of Syria. Similar security operations targeting members or collaborators of the organization occur intermittently in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.

On September 30, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented an air assault carried out by International Coalition forces in the city of Al-Shuhail, east of Deir Ezzor, resulting in the arrest of two individuals accused of belonging to ISIS amid intensive helicopter flights and widespread security alert.

In the village of Al-Takihei, east of the province, SDF “commando” units recently conducted a similar security raid that resulted in the detention of several individuals suspected of membership in ISIS cells.
