Armed Clash in Rural Damascus Kills Security Officer, Injures Three Others

One member of the Syrian Public Security Forces was killed and three others were injured on Tuesday during an armed clash in the town of Al-Husseiniyah, in the Damascus countryside.
Field sources told North Press Agency that the clash erupted when a security patrol attempted to break up an armed dispute between two families in the town. The situation quickly escalated into heavy gunfire and the detonation of a hand grenade on Al-Khazzan Street, resulting in casualties and injuries.
According to the sources, the slain officer was Jihad Issa Al-Othmani, while the three wounded personnel were transferred to Al-Muwasat Hospital in Damascus for treatment.
The source added that a security cordon was imposed around the town, and raids were carried out to track down those responsible for the attack, noting that the assailants belong to local groups involved in drug and arms trafficking.
The towns of Al-Husseiniyah and Sayyida Zainab have witnessed a series of similar incidents in recent months, amid residents’ complaints about weak security control, the spread of unregulated weapons, and ongoing smuggling activities.
