Al-Hijri Calls for an Independent Entity for the Druze Sect and Emphasizes the Right to Self-Determination

Hikmat Al-Hijri, one of the spiritual leaders of the Druze sect in Syria’s Suwayda province, has called for the establishment of an independent entity for the Druze community, stressing the necessity of respecting the right to self-determination and affirming that this demand will not be abandoned regardless of the sacrifices involved.

Al-Hijri also expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their support, and called for the opening of routes crossings to As-Suwayda. He also demanded the return of “seized villages and lands to their original inhabitants” and the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees.

About ten days earlier, Al-Hijri had called for international support to establish a separate region for the Druze sect. During his meeting with the new leader of the “Men of Dignity Movement,” Mazeed Khadaj, that he appealed to the “honorable people of the world and free nations to stand with the Druze community in declaring a separate region forever.”

Al-Hijri also noted that the National Guard, recently formed from armed Druze groups, “will defend the land under the guarantee of countries concerned with this issue,” as he put it.
