A Rare Visit by a UN Security Council Delegation to Syria Amid Disagreements Over Its Arrangements

A delegation of representatives from the member states of the UN Security Council arrived in Syria on Thursday, where they are scheduled to hold meetings with official authorities and civil society figures.
Slovenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Samuel Žbogar—whose country holds the presidency of the Security Council for the month of December and is leading the delegation—had previously stated that preparations for the visit took time due to the difficulty of reaching a consensus among council members regarding it.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the delegation will hold a series of meetings related to the humanitarian and political situation in the country.
It is noteworthy that on November 6, the UN Security Council issued a resolution removing both Ahmad al-Sharaa, the president designated for the transitional phase, and Interior Minister Anas Khattab from the sanctions lists.
