A Civilian Killed by Unknown Gunmen in Rural Damascus Amid Escalating Security Chaos

A civilian was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the countryside of the capital, Damascus, in a new incident reflecting the continued deterioration of the security situation in areas under the control of the Interim Government in Syria.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, two armed men opened fire on a citizen from the Shiite sect — a father of three children — in the Ghazlaniya subdistrict of Eastern Ghouta, resulting in his immediate death.

The Observatory pointed out that the crime comes as part of a series of incidents bearing a sectarian nature, amid the absence of accountability and the ongoing manifestations of security chaos.

According to statistics issued by the Observatory, the number of victims of sectarian-related crimes in areas controlled by the Interim Government since the beginning of 2025 has reached about 1,121 people, including 1,059 men, 40 women, and 22 children.
