The killing of the two leaders Ali Larijani and Gholam Reza Soleimani in Israeli airstrikes

Ali Larijani and Gholam Reza Soleimani are among the most prominent influential figures in the political and security landscape in Iran, as they both combine an active presence in managing sensitive internal and external files, which reflects the clear overlap between political and military roles in the country.

Larijani, born in 1957, is known for his long career in Iranian institutions, having served as Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly for several terms, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, in addition to his presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. He also briefly held the position of chief nuclear negotiator, making him one of the prominent political figures who played a pivotal role in shaping public policies, particularly with regard to the nuclear file and international relations.

In contrast, Gholam Reza Soleimani, born in 1964, represents one of the most prominent military leaders within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, where he holds the position of head of the Basij Organization. Soleimani participated in the Iran–Iraq War, which gave him extensive field experience that contributed to his rise within the military Institute , and enabled him to oversee a paramilitary force considered one of the most important tools of security and social influence in Iran, enhancing internal stability and supporting the implementation of policies related to societal security.

The simultaneous presence of the two figures demonstrates the integration between the political decision-maker on the one hand, and the military and security leadership on the other, in managing internal challenges and dealing with regional and international transformations, which makes their impact on the course of Iranian politics domestically and externally significant and ongoing.
