Iraq Rejects the Use of Its Territory or Airspace for Any Military Attack

Iraq has affirmed its categorical rejection of the use of its territory or airspace as a launchpad for any military attack targeting other countries, calling on the concerned parties to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue in order to avoid regional escalation.
This came in a statement issued today by the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Numan, following potential U.S. threats of intervention in Iran in the context of protests and the crackdown by Iranian authorities.
Al-Numan said:
“In light of the rapidly unfolding regional developments and the accompanying escalation and threats that affect the security and stability of the region, the Republic of Iraq reaffirms its firm and principled position rejecting the use of its territory, airspace, or regional waters as a launchpad for any military actions targeting any country whatsoever.”
The statement added:
“We call on all parties to exercise restraint, give precedence to the language of dialogue, avoid escalation, and work seriously to resolve disputes through peaceful and diplomatic means.”
