U.S. Army Announces Killing and Arrest of About 25 ISIS Members in Syria

The U.S. Central Command announced on Tuesday that U.S. forces and allied forces carried out a series of operations against ISIS in Syria, resulting in the killing and detention of about 25 members of the organization during the period from December 20 to 29.
The Central Command said in a statement that U.S. forces and their allies conducted 11 military operations during that period, during which at least seven members of the organization were killed and others were arrested, in addition to destroying four ISIS weapons caches.
The statement added that these operations followed extensive airstrikes carried out by the United States on December 19, targeting dozens of ISIS sites in Syria in response to an attack on U.S. forces.
U.S. and Syrian forces had been subjected, on December 14, to an attack near the city of Palmyra in Homs Governorate in central Syria during a joint field tour, carried out by an individual affiliated with ISIS, according to the statement.
The attack resulted in the death of the perpetrator, two U.S. soldiers, and a civilian interpreter, and injured three other soldiers, according to U.S. sources, who noted that the joint delegation was conducting a mission to support ongoing operations against the organization in the area.
U.S. forces are primarily deployed in Syria in areas under the control of Kurdish forces in the northeast of the country, in addition to the Al-Tanf base located near the border triangle with Jordan.
