Syria’s Central Bank Denies Setting a Date for the Launch of a New Syrian Currency

The Central Bank of Syria confirmed today that it has not yet set an official date for the launch of the new Syrian currency, noting that it will announce all details at the appropriate time once the necessary preparations and arrangements are completed.

The bank urged citizens and investors not to rely on any circulating information about the new currency except through official channels, primarily the Central Bank of Syria’s website. It clarified that all banking transactions are currently proceeding as usual, without any impact on the services provided.

This clarification came in response to reports published yesterday, citing economic sources, which claimed that both public and private banks would close between December 27 and January 2 in order to complete the currency exchange process, with the new currency being injected into the market starting January 4, 2026. The bank has denied the accuracy of this information.
