Turkey urges talks between Damascus and SDF, warns of waning patience

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has once again called for continued talks between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurds, while simultaneously warning that the patience of the involved parties is running out due to what he described as delays in implementing the integration agreement.

In an interview with TRT World, Fidan said: “We only hope that things move forward through dialogue and negotiations in a peaceful manner. We do not want to see any need to resort to military means again, but the Syrian Democratic Forces must realize that the patience of the relevant actors is running out.”

Fidan’s remarks come as the deadline for the implementation of the March 10 agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces approaches, bringing renewed tension to the Syrian scene amid overlapping military actions and political calculations. There are growing questions about whether the country is heading toward an organized integration of the SDF into the Syrian military, or towards an escalation that could open the door to a wider confrontation.

In March, the new Syrian authorities signed an agreement with the Kurdish forces, which stipulates the integration of the civil and military institutions of the Autonomous Administration into the national institutions. However, significant disagreements between the two sides have prevented the agreement from being implemented so far.
