Israel-Greece-Cyprus Summit Discusses Regional Cooperation Amid Eastern Mediterranean Tensions

Israel hosted a trilateral political summit bringing together Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to explore ways to enhance cooperation between the three countries on several regional issues.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority quoted officials as saying that the summit conveyed political messages amid ongoing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly disputes related to energy issues and maritime border demarcation.

According to sources, the three leaders discussed strengthening political, security, and economic cooperation, with a focus on energy, defense, and regional security matters.

Israel’s “Kan 11” radio reported that coordination between Israel, Greece, and Cyprus comes within the framework of the three countries’ convergence on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, at a time when the region is witnessing increasing regional competition.

The talks also addressed prospects for military cooperation and potential arms deals, in light of reports about Greek negotiations to purchase air defense systems and artillery units from Israel.
