Two Injuries from Sniper Fire in Suwayda Despite Ongoing Ceasefire

Two people were injured by gunfire incidents in Suwayda Governorate over the past twenty-four hours, amid reported violations of the ongoing ceasefire, according to local sources.
The sources stated that a young man, Ghassan Abu Fakhr, was wounded on Saturday evening by a gunshot to the thigh while he was in the vicinity of the civilian prison in Suwayda city. He was subsequently transferred to a hospital to receive medical treatment.
In a separate incident, Basel Ismail Arij was injured by sniper fire in the western countryside of Suwayda on Friday evening while he was near the axis of al-Mazra’a village. He sustained a severe injury to his hand, which later required amputation due to the seriousness of the wounds, according to the same sources.
The sources added that the shooting incidents were accompanied by intensive drone activity, in addition to sporadic strikes that targeted civilian areas in the western countryside of Suwayda.
For its part, a force identifying itself as the “National Guard” in Suwayda said that these developments “contravene international conventions that prohibit the targeting of civilians, particularly during ceasefire periods sponsored by international parties.”
