Israel Denies Reaching Any Agreements Regarding the Syrian File

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today denied the accuracy of reports claiming that agreements or understandings had been reached with the transitional government regarding the Syrian file, confirming that the recent communications did not exceed preliminary discussions mediated by the United States.

In a statement, the office said that the meetings and contacts held over the past period under American mediation were limited to discussing issues related to the situation in Syria, without making any progress or reaching a consensual formula, stressing that what has been circulated about the existence of an agreement or a breakthrough in this track is “inaccurate.”

The statement clarified that these contacts come within the framework of broader diplomatic efforts led by Washington in the region. The Israeli denial came after media reports indicated that Netanyahu had refrained from signing an agreement with the Syrian side that was believed to have been formulated during the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.
