Thomas Barrack: Trump’s decisions on Syria came after extensive study

U.S. envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, said on Sunday that U.S. President Donald Trump made his decisions regarding the Syrian file after “extensive study,” noting that Trump “saw the need to give an opportunity to the head of the Syrian Transitional Government, Ahmad al-Shar’a.”

Barrack added, during his participation in the Doha Forum, that “President Donald Trump made his decisions regarding Syria after extensive study, and saw the need to give an opportunity to the head of the Syrian Transitional Government, Ahmad al-Shar’a.”

The U.S. envoy clarified that “the achievements made in Syria were heroic, and we must encourage those responsible for them and support them.”

Barrack said that “things in Syria are moving in the right direction, and they must be allowed to define themselves on their own,” adding: “We must not forget that the leadership in Syria is new and needs stability.”

He pointed out that “we cannot impose our expectations on Syria.”
