Araghchi: Iran Open to a “Fair Outcome” if Washington Adjusts Its Negotiation Approach

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that the future of any negotiating path with the United States will depend on Washington changing its current approach, affirming his country’s readiness to reach a “fair and balanced outcome” if that condition is met.

Araghchi explained, in remarks carried by Iranian state media, that past negotiation experiences with the United States “were not positive,” but stressed that Tehran remains open to any agreement that guarantees the interests of all parties.

The minister affirmed his country’s commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, noting that Iran has a “legitimate right” to develop a peaceful nuclear program within international regulations. He considered that achieving diplomatic progress requires a “clear change” in the U.S. position and a willingness to reach a balanced agreement.

Araghchi also addressed the attacks that targeted Iranian nuclear facilities last June, saying they may have caused radioactive contamination that could complicate the return of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors and the resumption of monitoring procedures.

He added that his country hopes to benefit from Japanese technical expertise to address the contamination effects and enhance nuclear safety standards at the affected sites.
