Wave of Mass Arrests Targets Dozens of Civilians in Western Rural Homs

The western rural areas of Homs Province are witnessing a large-scale campaign of arrests that has targeted dozens of civilians in the village of Al-Muta‘arid, amid an unprecedented security escalation and growing tension among residents.

Forces affiliated with the Transitional Government carried out a raid and arrest campaign inside the village, accompanied by unidentified armed groups, causing fear and panic among the population.

According to local sources, more than 50 people from the village have been arrested, including young men and elderly residents, belonging to well-known local families such as “Aboud,” “Kharfan,” “Shahhoud,” and others.

Information indicates that several detainees were subjected to beatings and electric shocks during their transfer, raising serious concerns among families about their safety and fate. Residents are also facing difficulties in contacting human rights organizations and media outlets due to communication outages in several surrounding areas, making it even harder to report what is happening.

Fear of arrest has driven many young men from the village to hide in nearby farmlands. Local sources have also obtained a list of several detainees, including:

Abd al-Latif Saleh Aboud – Hani Abd al-Latif Aboud and his wife – Firas Abd al-Latif Aboud – Wissam Suleiman Aboud – Mohammed Suleiman Aboud – Bashar Harmoush.

Residents of the village issued an urgent appeal to media outlets and human rights organizations to take immediate action, uncover the whereabouts of the detainees, and clarify the reasons behind the campaign that has dramatically altered the lives of the population in the past hours.
