Attempted Assault on Elderly Driver in Tartus Sparks Widespread Outrage

Syrian activists and a human rights monitor reported that an elderly taxi driver was subjected to an attempted slashing attack on Al-Thawra Street in the city of Tartus, in an incident described as having sectarian motives, while passersby managed to intervene and save him.

Social media users circulated a video showing the driver — who belongs to the Alawite community — being attacked with a sharp object after the assailant asked him about his sectarian affiliation, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The incident sparked widespread outrage among residents, with calls for measures to curb such attacks and prevent any future incitement or discriminatory incidents.
