Syria: We will confront Israeli attacks through diplomatic and legal channels

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alibi, said that his country will follow diplomatic and legal channels to respond to the Israeli attack that targeted the town of Beit Jinn in the southwestern Damascus countryside, which resulted in deaths and injuries, according to what Al Arabiya reported on Friday.

Alibi explained that “the government’s priority is the protection of civilians,” adding that “a direct military response is not on the table,” and that his country “will confront the aggression by documenting it at the United Nations and working to condemn it in international bodies.”

The Syrian envoy noted that Damascus “has succeeded in isolating Israel diplomatically,” as he put it, adding that “15 members of the Security Council condemned the recent Israeli attacks.” He pointed out that Syria “remains committed to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement,” considering that this commitment “disturbs Israel more than the option of military retaliation.”

Alibi called on the Security Council to “take urgent action and adopt measures that ensure respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” demanding an end to the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.
