Shooting Near the White House Injures Two National Guard Members

Two members of the National Guard were seriously injured on Wednesday following a shooting incident that occurred near the White House, according to U.S. authorities.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem explained that police immediately responded to the scene, confirming that the National Guard members had come under fire in the vicinity of 17th Street and “I” Street, an area that typically sees heightened security measures. She added that authorities are working with local law enforcement agencies to gather more information about the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced a suspension of departing flights to Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport for security reasons, while the crime scene was secured, and the suspect was apprehended and transported to a local hospital.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump described the incident on his Truth Social account, asserting that the perpetrator “will pay a heavy price,” and praising the efforts of the National Guard and law enforcement agencies. He said: “God bless the National Guard, the military, and law enforcement. I, as President of the United States, and all those associated with the Office of the Presidency, stand with you.”

The White House, for its part, confirmed that it is being kept fully updated on developments and continues to closely monitor the situation.
