Escalation in Al-Sumeriya in Damascus After Eviction Warnings Within 24 Hours

The Al-Sumeriya area west of Damascus is witnessing increasing tension following verbal notices received by several residents instructing them to evacuate their homes within 24 hours, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, amid fears of measures that may affect the stability of families in the neighborhood.
According to testimonies from residents of the area, a security official known as “Abu Hudhayfa” visited the neighborhood and informed residents that the homes marked in green on the plans would be included in upcoming demolition operations. Residents said this step caused anxiety among families who fear losing their homes without clear alternatives.
According to the Observatory, the recent developments were accompanied by ongoing inspection operations, security reviews, and increasing movement restrictions inside the area. A wall was also built in recent weeks surrounding Al-Sumeriya, allowing control over its entrances and residents’ movement.
Residents of the neighborhood fear that these measures may lead to large-scale evictions, in the absence of any official clarifications about the reasons behind these steps or the nature of the urban plan linked to the demolition process.
Residents say they are awaiting official information determining the fate of the homes included in the warnings, before the deadline given to them expires in the coming hours.
