Israel Accuses Turkey of Seeking to Turn Syria into a Front Against It

Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of seeking to “turn Syria into a front for attacking Israel,” considering Turkish actions in the region to be a direct threat to Israeli security.

Chikli said in press statements that Israel must “work diplomatically to isolate Turkey,” adding that Ankara’s regional policy “aims to expand its influence by supporting parties opposed to Israel,” as he put it.

These statements come amid escalating tensions between the two sides, against the backdrop of political and regional disputes, in addition to mutual accusations regarding Turkey’s role in northern Syria.
